I don't live very far from Paddington, a 5-10 minute drive at best. However I rarely stop in Paddington to eat (I know silly it's one of the best food precincts in Brisbane). Truth is though I wig out big time about the parking there. I can barely park my stupidly big car at the best of times in fact one lady once yelled abuse at me trying to cram into a small space saying "If you can't drive you shouldn't have a 4wd!"... Anyway I decided to actually head out to Paddington by bus to relieve me of the parking dilemma.
I had an idea of where I wanted to go but saw a post pop up in my news feed from The Weekend Edition... Hmmm a new Paddington cafe you say? Well I was on it and keen to try this new place out. Kettle & Tin is that new place and I was decidedly delighted by my first impressions.
K & T has this really light airy feel. Lot's of natural sunlight pooling into the cafe filling it with this warm sunshine ambience. It felt fresh but at the same time cosy. I love that it's this refitted old workers cottage wedged between the concrete of inner city suburbia. It seems these days people are big on the knick nacks and scattering tiny details every where. I liked that K & T kept it simple and uncluttered but still with a few touches of personality.

It was quite busy when we showed up just as the breakfast menu was ending. I was assured though that was actually quiet compared to the hectic morning they had had. I was impressed to see that even after such a busy morning that everyone there from head of house to chefs worked in sync and with a cheerful sprite in their step. It was actually so busy that morning that they told me they actually sold 200 Hunter's Eggs breakfast till sell out. I was disappointed I missed out but I was late and just made it before the lunch menu took over.

Ruby ordered the French Toasted Banana Bread with syrup and walnuts... I can tell you she demolished pretty much all of that dish in little to no time at all. I tried to be a little more conservative in terms of diet with Parmesan and Spinach Egg White Omlet... I was a bit nervous when it came out drizzled in oil ( I loved this but I know Michelle Bridge's would be scorning my poor choice in brunch). Even though it was so lovely I had to restrain myself from eating the rest of the bread.
Continuing on with a health conscious point of view I ordered a hot brewed pot of peppermint tea. It was lovely and soul warming in this weather. Ruby even had a taste and commented how it smelt like lollies but tasted minty... I think I may have a bit of a tea fan in her now.
The big picture though is that I love Kettle & Tin... The food was beautiful in taste and presentation. The atmosphere light and uplifting and the staff superb! Of course I think you will expect teething problems from any new cafe especially one that has such a high volume of customers, but I think the team at K & T are doing an awesome job so far. You guys need to check this one out because I think it's a keeper... If your not fond of busy places perhaps come out on a quieter weekday. WWell worth it imo though.
