I was at a bar one night talking to a fellow foodie. She asked me if I had ever been to sourced grocer? I told her I had heard of sourced but had actually never gone as a consequence of convenience. She looked at me with a slight smirk and said bluntly "How can you call yourself a foodie?" It was something I thought about for a while until I actually ended up visiting Sourced for the first time, because she was right...
Ask anyone serious about food in Brisbane about Sourced and they will sing it's praises. I lived quite close to a gourmet grocer/deli and I really didn't think it was such a big deal seeing as I could buy the same ingredients there. But I underestimated Sourced and when I did finally arrive I was pretty blown away. I think the problem was my imagination couldn't dream up something as good as this place.
Imagine if you died and you went to food heaven, because that's pretty much what Sourced is like. When you walk up into it's warehouse set up, past the sun lounging deck seats, the beautiful vintage wooden stairs you might think it's just a pretty face. It's actually so much more than that though. So many hard to find food ingredients you could easily spend hours sourcing yourself around Brisbane are actually under one roof here as well as a cafe doing an awesome job at showcasing some of their best produce.

I'm the last born of 3 children so as you can imagine I spent a lot of time while my siblings were at school tagging along with my mum on her grocery trips when I was a child. I remember watching her smell, touch, feel to test for the freshest foods to take home to turn into a meal. Source have already gone to the markets early and done all the hard work for you. So not only do they house some of the best artisan products in store but also the freshest market stock. Good for a time poor person like myself.
Two of my favourite products Leavain bread and Baramabah organics are stocked in full range by source for you to buy for home use. I'd make trips alone just to get them as they are either only found at the markets in the case of the Leavain or select grocers for the full Barambah range. If you haven't tried either you must try something from the menu that uses them.
Weather it be a simple sour dough wheat with jam, a chicken and avocado salad sandwich or some granola with Barambah yoghurt and milk you will totally see why they are my favourites. They make any simple dish outstanding with their distinct textures and tastes. You may have a hard time choosing something though because when you see the sea of dishes walking up and down the stairs your mouth is set to water.
There is something for everyone at sourced with an great range of porridge, toast, salad's, sandwiches and much much more. Some of the things we've eaten at sourced have been 'The Trent' fruit loaf topped with sweetened ricotta and banana - a winner with my kids. This time they were out of fruit loaf but not wanting to disappoint they substituted with a sweet bagel.
I also love their Farmer Jo's Granola topped with yoghurt, fruit, fresh micro herbs and some fresh milk to pour to your taste. The flavour's they come in are pear - pecan and ginger - burnt fig cinnamon and almond - quinoa, pineapple and macadamia. I've also bought the take home Farmer Jo's porridge and granola just to relive these beautiful dishes at home.
Sourced haven't just only sourced the perfect produce for you to buy and eat there but also the perfect complimenting coffee. While your soaking up some morning sunshine on the front deck with your breakfast you can also enjoy it with some'Cup Specialty' who are one of the best local roasters in town. Cup do some really great coffee roasts which you can also buy off the shelves of Sourced if you are a home coffee enthusiast. See I wasn't joking about this being foodie heaven because they have literally thought of everything.
If you love food do yourself a favour and get on down to sourced because you won't be disapointed. Sourced Grocer is one of those amazing places in Brisbane that gets you excited about food. Wether it be planning an epic meal with the best produce or simply hanging out with a good book and a hot breakfast on the stairs, they've definitely got it covered.
